So, one day, “the girl of the T-shirts” (you can understand my nickname reading my first post) has to help producers to achieve the best team… with the best of the communications ways…. and even has to make personal interviews to the candidates. Well, if I had to give a title, it would be: make your personal brand rules your CV! And do it right now!
FIRST OF ALL… Although it seems obvious, stand out in a visible way the position / candidature to which you are applying for. Yes, recruiters have no time to guess what do you want to be in your life… My first CV was like it: “dear recruiter, what can I do?: Everything, of course!!”… then, nobody called me….

Well… how your CV has to look like… I would say, be yourself like it was a reflection of your soul… lovely! But not! Please, be yourself but in the way you think a hundred thousand times before doing anything! Don’t occupy more than one page (trees have to survive…) and try to save your PDF archive in an editable way, not as an image… (yes, sometimes I make copy/paste…)
The innovative CV designs show creativity and initiative but … beware of making reading difficult!
Ok, now a clasiccal and silly error.… If you don’t put the province or the country, there are addresses that can be the same in Spain as in Mexico…and, please, chronological order always! From the most current job…and put the dates!
Well, if you have done everything I have just mencioned, it will be a great step for the World!
But it’s not enough! If you want to work at audiovisual area, videogames or animation feature films, among others, don’t let a shot ruins your Reel! Discard WIP jobs and select the best: less is more! And, please, record it on your mind: Send links that don’t expire and run away from ZIP archives… Better send Vimeo links with or without a password! Or a Dropbox link, please!
Don’t forget indicate in the e-mail subject what is the candidature you are applying for, and to demostrate some human qualities, include a brief presentation or cover letter. But, please, not being too formal doesn’t mean you write too colloquial.
Yes, talk about featured movies / videogames / companies you have been working, and what softwares you’re specialized in … but be brief, please!
And I can’t forget the typical question… photo… yes or not? Well… from my point of view, nowadays, we live in social media … So if you don’t insert your photo, I ask myself… what’s wrong with you? Because I will find you on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and I will see the portrait that you don’t want I see… I promise.. XD.
How to know what is the best pic… Well, nothing better that my own B-side. One day I chose this profile photo:
Yes… I know! It was the pic with more likes on Facebook 😉 … And the best comment of all: “What a pretty girl! It doesn’t look like you!” … Thanks mum…
But one day I had a revelation: I didn’t trust on that girl of my own profile... she has half face behind her hair… the chin high, arrogant look… maybe for Tindle, Whatsapp or Instagram is perfect but… I don’t have that face when talk to people at work... Then… like photographer I am, I began to make me selfies with my professional camera.. natural light and flash…and after hundred pics… here we have my true Patricia!
Yes, you can see my two eyes, natural smile, style and expression! Tattoo, piercing… are not a problem! All that is me! Then… What did my mum say??: “What a pretty girl! It doesn’t look like you!”… (Mothers!!!)
Your personal brand is your best presentation card so, althought you have to take in care these things, be natural and show what you can do for the company. You will give the best of you working, so begin giving the best of you with the CV.
All my admiration for people who work in Human Resources with the big responsability of contract the best people to the company and not let value people run away. Recently, I saw a spanish forum on LinkedIn to improve the Human Resources and make it can be more “human”. Answering to every candidate explaining about why he/she is not elegible and how improve their CV are some of the tips of the “decalogue” they are preparing. What important is the communication in all the bussiness areas!!! I desire it can be real!
Upps! Don’t forget that LinkedIn is a professional social media, so choose the correct contacts of you labour area, because it improves the probability of appearing in the search of the recruiters. And share news about your job and articles of the sector…
